Why Alberta is different

Most of your bill is not the energy

Alberta does not bill power the way most provinces do, and that changes what a good energy system looks like here.

Distribution charges follow your peak. They are driven by the highest 15-minute demand in your billing cycle. A single simultaneous motor start can set the charge for the entire month — regardless of how much energy you actually consumed.

Most solar companies quote panels and kilowatt-hours. The demand profile, the control sequencing and the rate class are where the money usually is.

What we look at first

  • Your rate class and distributor
  • Your 15-minute demand peaks and when they happen
  • Which loads can be shifted, staged or controlled
  • Whether solar should be sized to offset energy, demand, or both
  • Whether the operation qualifies for the 30% Clean Technology ITC

What we do

Engineering first, equipment second

Engineering team reviewing a solar and storage design on site

Engineering & EPC

System design, procurement, construction and commissioning under an APEGA Permit to Practice — the professional registration required to offer engineering services in Alberta.

Solar array with battery energy storage containers and microgrid controls

Solar + BESS + Microgrids

Solar generation, battery energy storage and intelligent controls delivered as one integrated system, with automatic transfer and controller-level sequencing.

Technician performing diagnostics on a battery storage system

O&M & Lifecycle Support

Monitoring, diagnostics, preventive and corrective maintenance — including snow and soiling management, which quietly erodes output through an Alberta winter.

Proof, not adjectives

A 3 MWp hybrid irrigation microgrid, already running

At AgroThaThi in Correntina, Brazil, the One Energy Group built an irrigation microgrid combining roughly 3 MWp of solar with seven diesel generators, automatic transfer switching and PLC-level sequencing — integrated directly with centre pivot operation.

It is the same engineering problem southern Alberta irrigators face: high-inrush pumping loads, demand charges that punish simultaneous starts, and a need to keep water moving regardless of what the grid is doing.

Get started

Tell us how your operation uses power

A useful conversation about energy starts with three things: what you pay, how you are billed, and when you draw the most power. Send those and we will come back with a view of what is actually achievable on your site — not a panel count.

  • Reviewed by an engineering team working under an APEGA Permit to Practice
  • Alberta rate classes, demand charges and micro-generation rules considered from the start
  • Clear next steps, whether or not we are the right fit
